The Neo/SCI 050-3429 ESCM Pure Power: Light, Heat, Electricity, and Magnetism Kit is an elementary science curriculum module (ESCM) supply kit for students in grades 3-5 to develop understanding of basic science concepts, and includes five activities on light, heat and electricity, magnetism, and sound, materials for 32 students in plastic totes, a teacher’s guide, student worksheets, professional development videos, and assessment CD-ROMs. Activities include experimenting with light, heat and electricity, magnetism, and sound to understand that these properties can be observed, measured, and controlled, experimenting with mirrors and lenses to understand that light can be reflected by a mirror, refracted by a lens, or absorbed by an object, and exploring the various ways that heat can be produced, and that it can move from one object to another by conduction. Activities also include experimenting with electricity in circuits that can produce light, heat, sound, and magnetic effects, and exploring the properties of magnets and their ability to attract and repel each other and certain other materials. The professional development video shows teachers how to use the curriculum module. The teacher’s guide is titled Pure Power. The assessment CD-ROM tests student achievement of the concepts presented in the module.
